tarn Bill, whicn ia to oncaw th? attteaHou of Parliament ?, r> c r . if it becomes law, Olovnto flw reputation of ;V UU „V„ccion ot accountant, and also to li«i‘ tlieir r(Jdeneo to our r fi.-. country them are many per- • Viio have laid the benefit of o education, the experience of i-in Hue, :uul mercantile training, who" practise as accountant, but nwiwr tllo sm:ill amount of work had to include other businesses t 0 make a competence, 0.g., that of secretary, official assignee, land and estate agents, agencies for merchandise, etc. Under this Bill, however, they will bo debarred, for no one can be registered if lie is engaged in any business or occupation inconsistent with the integrity of the profession of accountancy, and no person unless lie is registered as a Public Accountant can advertise or hold himself out as an accountant, nor can be perform any accountancy work or auditing for a public company or building society for hire. This will operate rather heavily on the funds of dairy factories and private companies registered under the Companies Act, for it is expressly stipulated they' shall have their books and accounts audited oucc every year, and it will mean that they will have cither to send their books to tbo nearest Public Accountant, or pay bis expenses for coming to them. The former method lias many objections, to say nothing of the inconvenience caused, and the latter is certain to be high. Fees for auditing will also bo larger, and work that is now done for ten and twenty guineas will bo doubled. It is to bo hoped that before the Bill becomes law alterations will be made so as to prevent it operating unduly on ; those residing in the country, either as individuals, companies, or private concerns,—l am, etc., FRANCIS SHAW.
