THE ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.
Press Association. —Copyright. London, August 5, The King and Queen, the Prince of Wales ami Buko of Connaught visited tho Antarctic expeditionary ship Nimrod. Tho party were greatly interested in tho equipment, and the King decorated Lieutenant Shackleton, commander, with the Victorian order, as au incentive to scientific research and exploration. lie said ho hoped that the intrepid and difficult enterprise would bo successful. 'The Queen presented Lieutenant Shackcltou withther portrait and also a silk Union Jack, remarking, “ May this lead you safely to tho South Polo.” Sir Wm. A. Cell; a Surrey gentleman, has presented AiOOO towards tho cost of the expedition. [Tho Nimrod was due to sail to-day.]
