A deputation of flaxmiljers waited on the Premier to-day and pointed out that the Land and Income Assessment Bill, as drafted, would in* jure the flax industry. Under the Bill of 1903 tax was recoverable on the unimproved value of the laud, and flaxmillers were allowed to debit the cot of raw material againt their income. That was the position that millers desired to be placed in to* day. ■ The Premier said that Government had no intention 'of penalising the industry. He promised to look carefully into the matter with a view,to discovering the best remedy for the difficulty pointed out.
