Auckland defeats Manawatu. Per Press Association. Auckland, August 3. Auckland defeated Manawatu at hockey here to-day by six goals to three, after a fast and most interesting game. There was an attendance of over 2000. Auckland notched three goals within the first twenty minutes of play, but Manawatu thou took charge and scored two goals before half time. In the second spell Manawatu were attacking for most of the time, but fine goal-keeping by Auckland’s man and bad shooting on the part of Manawatu’s forwards prevented them from adding any more than one goal to their total. AnckV-i 1 notched three goals during this si-eii, chiefly as the result of forward play.' On the day’s play there was no difference between the two teams, and Auckland wore fortunate in winning, Auckland will play the Taranaki reps, at Auckland next Saturday.
