SINKING OF A SCOW.
Press Association. Auckland, July 20. The scow Flora sank oil Devonport early this morning. It is believed that three o£ her crew are drowned. LATEE. The cutter Flora was anchored on the sandspit at Devonport. About 3.15 a.m. shrieks were heard coining from the harbour. It was blowing hard at the time, and with the heavy sea it was impossible to launch a boat. The cries ceased at 3.35. An hour later a steamer went across from Auckland and found only the topmast above the water, but no signs of the crew, who were washed away. Had she been closer m the cutter would have grounded with her deck above water, but where she was there was a depth of 20ft. Michael Sullivan was in charge, assisted by Thos. Olarke and a casual hand.
