FAVOURITE’S DOWNFALL.
The Kaiser has severed his long friendship with Prince Eulenburg, who for many years has been the leader of the German Court. Prince Eulenburg's loss of the Imperial favour is"regarded as an event of great national importance in consequence of the influence exercised by this strange aristocrat on affairs of State. His relations with the Emperor have been of the most intimate nature.
The Prince is a firm believer in spiritualism, and this fact has long been a misfortune for Germany.
Prince Enlenburg’s downfall was brought about by Herr Maximilian Harden, the brilliant journalist, who exposed the Imperial favourite’s character and methods in his weekly review, “Zukunft. ” When the history of the present reign is written chroniclers will regard Prince Eulenburg as a dangerous and irresponsible adviser to the Crown. He frequently exercised far greater influence than the Chancellor of the Emperor. As recently as last November he was the leader of a Court" intrigue to oust Prince Bulow from office. The plot failed, however.
