ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
Per Press Association . Wellington, July 18. A deputation from the Acclimatisation Societies’ Conference waited on members of the Ministry for the purpose of presenting resolutions passed at the Conference the previous day. Sir Joseph Ward said he was personally in sympathy with the desire to conserve our game from unsportsmanlike destruction. He would do his best to have the recommendations of the Conference carried into effect.
The Hon. J. A. Millar said he had not heard anything about the destruction of whitebait in the rivers and would have to make enquiries before the supply to the public could bo checked. If it was practicable to introduce the paddock and herring into New Zealand waters he would place a sum on the Estimates to meet the cost. He would ask for a sum this year for the purpose of getting Atlantic salmon.
