EXPLOSION ON A BATTLESHIP.

An explosion of powder aboard the United States battleship Georgia, during target practiccfcoffi Province Town, Massachusetts, killed five and injured 12, including three officers. It is suspected that a _ spark from the Georgia’s funnel ignited the powder and the concussion and fixe injured all who were in the turret. Details of ~the Georgia explosion show that while a charge of *2OO pounds was,being lifted from a hoist two seamen noticed the cower smouldering. They shouted a warniu" and threw themselves on the fluor. A terrific burst of flame followed and the turret was filled with | smoke and noxious gases. A number ■ tried to escape through the hatchwav and some gained the deck and jumped ! into the sea. The chaplain was the 1 first to enter the turret. ( Two more deaths of the injured arc i j-eported and six aro in a precarious | condition.
