Wellington Winter Meeting.

Wellington, July 8; The following weights have been declared for the

Dunedin Jockey Club’s receipts for tho year totalled £11,479, expenditure £10,898. The club proposes to raise the stakes to £IOOO, Atja meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club Metropolitan Committee, held on Friday afternoon, a letter was received from the Rangitikoi Racing Club, asking that the clnb’s delegates to tho Conference should object to the Manawatu Racing Club being granted a third day at its next summer meeting. Tho letter was received and no action taken. At tho same meeting the Napier Park Racing Club reported upon an enquiry held in connection with its recent mooting and it was decided that tho license issued to D. Watt, jockey, bo cancelled. The winner of tho Victorian Grand National Hurdles was bred in Victoria by Mr James Redfearn, who won the Melbourne Cup with Malvolio, sire of Bribery. Malvolio is a son of Malua, who won tho same race in 1888. The Gift, dam of Bribery, is a daughter of Wellington, son of Panic, to which family many successful hurdle racers and steeplechasers in the Commonwealth belong. Wellington is also the sire of two previous winners of the race in Apsloy and Marmont. Panic sired the first two winners of tho race, in Sir Peter and Phosns, Bribery is owned m Tasmania, whore ho won five hurdle races last season. His success in such an important event will bo some consolation for the loss sustained through tho death of Hova, who died a few days after ho was purchased by Mr Gateuhy. The meeting will he continued on Wednesday. Lion Heart is engaged in the Keilor Hurdle Race, twomiles ; Captain Shannon and Contender are in the Welter Handicap, seven furlongs ; Swimmer ia in the Kensington Steeplechase, about two miles, and Steeplechasers’ Flat Race, two miles.
