THE UNREST IN INDIA.
A Campaign of Sedition-
Press Association —Copyright. London, July 5
Reuter’s Calcutta correspondent reports that the disaffection affecting Bengal peasants, landholders, and aristocracy is more than it is supposed to bo in England. iThe King’s birthday was almost unnoticed except among Malidmmcdaus. A campaign of sedition is being conducted at Calcutta, and revolt against law and the boycotting of British goods are everywhere preached, smd social boycott is enforced against those maintaining relations with English oflicials. Government is unable to prevent the persecution of loyalists. Many Europeans have been assaulted, and are compelled to carry .arms in self defence. Railway carriages containing Europeans are nightly pelted with stones. An impression is current that many firearms are reaching Eastern Bengal. The Europeans are demanding more police and troops, also sterner measures against the seditious organisation called “National Volunteers,’’ and seditious orators and newspapers.
