Poverty Bay Turf Club,

At the annual meeting of Poverty Bay Turf Club it was stated that the credit balance for the year amounted to £903 and the club is m a very flourishing position. Mr J. W. Nolan was re-elected president.

barton Jockey Club.

The programme for the annual hack meeting of Marton Jockey Club is published to-day. It will he seen the stakes have been increased and the total now only falls short by £4o of £IOOO. The open event, Grot ton Handicap, is endowed with £IOO and the Marton Handicap, open, on the second day, £lls, and the Shorts Handicap, five furlongs, and the Telegraph Handicap, L six furlongs, are also open events. The steeplechase event on the first day will bo the over popular Hunt Cup, distanco two and a half miles, and the crosscountry race the second day is the Hack Steeplechase, two miles. A double totaiisator will bo conducted for the first time this year. The first day it will bo on the Hunt Cup and Plying Handicap and on the concluding day the Hack Steeples and the Marton Handicap. Since the last meeting the course has been top-dressed and fenced, and a number of other improvements have also been made for the convenience of the Club’s patrons. Nominations close with the Secretary, Mr A. Way, at Marton on 16th Augpst.
