MONASTIC INSTITUTIONS.

Press Association—Copyright. London, June 19; The Hon. K Corbott's Bill for the appointment of a commissioner to enquire into the need of inspection of monastic conventical institutions was read for tho first time and carried by 125 to 121. Several members of tho Government, includiag the Et. Hons. It. Haldane and A. Birrell, voted against the Bill. The Labour Party, which formerly opposed, now voted for the measure, their attitude being ascribed to the appearance of tho Nationalist candidate for the vacancy of the Jarrow electorate in Durham. When the result of the division was announced, showing that more Liberals than formerly had supported the Bill, tho Nationalists protested, the Hon. William Redmond declaring "That ends tho Liberal Alliance" ; the Hon. Denis Kilbride added " That will cost you 1G more years of Tory rule," and tho Hon. M. Joyce, "We will show you what Irishmen can do at Jarrow."
