From -Secretary Clifton Library, enclosing statement of receipts and expenditure of the public library and reading room. Tho cash balance ou last year’s working was £4 4s 4d. In view of the limited income the library committee do not feel justified iu providing a fire in the reading room during Iho winter months. Resolved, that as the Board’s subsidy of £ls is granted on the understanding- that fires should bo provided, heir absence would jeopardise any further subsidy. The Inspector of Nuisances was instructed to take action against residents who have failed to provide proper pans for night soil. A letter was received from Mr L. Richards in respect to a cow sold from the public pound.—Referred to poimdkocper.

Accounts to the amount of £25 12s lOd were passed for payment. The advisability of raising a loan to complete tho repairs to footpaths and other urgent work was discussed 1 It was pointed out that the interest and sinking fund ou a loan of £6OO would be more economical than the present method of doing tho work piecemeal, and that although it would he necessary to strike a rate such rate would not have to be collected. It was decided to ask Mr Downes to prepare a schedule of the works and an estimate of tho cost, to ho laid before the Board at next meeting. : '
