Prance and Spain have exchanged a note mutually guaranteeing the maintenance of the status cpio in those parts of the Mediterranean aud the Atlantic wherein they are directly interested. The note does not constitute any alliance and is not accompained by any military convention.

Great Britain and Spam have exchanged a similar note with a view of safeguarding their mutual interests. These two agreements have been communicated to Germany and the other Great Powers.

Paris, June 17.

M. Pichon, in an interview, declared that the Franoo-Spanish arrangement, besides seeking to maintain the status quo, which, owing to the proximity of their respective possessions, could not bo modified without injuring the two Powers, is essential to their interests. It assures security of communications with such possessions. The two arrangements were excellent guarantees of peace. Lo Temps says the agreements are purely diplomatic.
