DOBBIN AMONGST THE DOULTON.
A variation of the idea of a hull in the China shop was enacted in Christchurch 'the other day, says Truth, the hero of the.incident being a particularly frolicsome horse of huge proportions. The animal appears to have broken loose from the. Botherfield stables and wandered out on to the . roadway. One of the lady employees of a firm in the vicinity was passing that way and Dobbin .emulating the example of many another representative ct the sterner sex evinced a desire to cultivate the damsel’s acquaintance. The maiden, however, proved coy, and subsequently became alarmed, and fleed for protection into Messrs J. Bates and Co.’s glass and china emporium. Nothing daunted, the quadruped followed in her wake and steered a tortuous and uncertain course through avenues of costly breakables. He continued his pursuit of beauty in distress with much I determination, as a result of which he contrived to shatter several choice specimens of ceramic art. The horae eventually took observations through the plate glass windows, possibly with the object of discovering someone less careful of his polite attentions. At this stage his rightful owner appeared on the scene and led him hack again iuto durance vile. Needless to say the shop assistants were considerably alarmed at the presence of so unusual a caller, and were considerably relieved when they saw the last of him.
