(From Onr Own Correspondent.) “Is the Barbarian Happier than: the Civilised Man?” was the subject for debate at the last meeting of the Literary Society, i’ho affirmative was taken fey Messrs H. Vaughan and J. Doeko and ttfo negative by Dr. Gregory and P. Guy. On a vote being taken the former /won by a majority of three. Arrangements have been made with the Kimboltou Literary Society to debate “Is Modern Civilisation a failure?” Both sides have picked strong teams. The Tennis Olub have decided to purchase the section which they at present occupy. The extension of tho lawn and erection of a shed will bo taken in hand at once. A start has been made with the footpaths, and stumping operations are in full swing. On Monday evening a meeting will be held in the school room to consider the advisability of forming technical classes in Apiti. Mr Amos will give an address. ■ Apiti, June loth, 1907.
