ALLEGED MANSLAUGHTER.

Per Press Association. Auckland, Jimo 13. A chargo of manslaughter against Eliza Da vies, in connection with the death of an infant taken for adoption, was heard in the Supremo Court to-day. The jury, upon tho suggestion of Judge Den- ; niston, acquitted accused before the case for the defence was concluded, tho judge ' stating it was impossible to find that death was due to starvation, as alleged, in view of the medical testimony. A post-mortem was necessary to show this. Tho judge declared the system of adopting infants in responso to advertisement offering a small premium should be made [ absolutely illegal, because under such circumstances it was to tho interests of a person taking a child that tho sooner it died tho better.
