ALLEGED ASSAULT.
At Feilding Court yesterday, before Messrs Trewin and Cobbe, Apostolo Itaptelis was charged with wounding G. Gambit sis with a knife on Ibe left forearm. Mr Carty appeared for. the accused, and Sergeant JBowden conducted the case for the Crown.
According to the evidence of the complainant, a fishmonger, he was on his way
to Kiinbolton on the sth hist. He called at Mr Conway's-place, where Gaiubitsifi, another fishmonger, then was. The latter told the complainant that ho ought not to have entered to sell fish while he was there. After some words between them, both went towards the outer gate, Ganibitsis in his cart and liaptelis following close behind, carrying a knife in one hand and a bundle of fish in the other, and still blaming complainant. Near the gato Kaptelis was said to have struck Gambitsis on the arm with his knife, cutting through a cc.it and singlet and making a wound across the arm about an inch in length, and down the muscles. Complainant struck the accused with a stick, the latter then running away alter receiving one blow. Complainant afterwards drove towards Pending, the accused in his own cart following.
Andrew Parris interpreted the Greek language for complainant. Sorgt. Bowden stated that after inquiry into the case after Gambit-sis had niado his charge, accused denied wounding complainant, and said they bad had a fight, and complainant had struck him over the left shoulder with an iron bar. Accused bared his shoulder for Sergeant Bowden to see, but neither of them, said the Sergeant, could see tho sign of a bruiso. Mr Carty, for accused, suggested that the wound, being a slight one, was selfinflicted. Accused reserved his defence, and was committed to take his trial at next Palmerston Supremo Court. He was admitted to bail, himself in £IOO and two sureties of ,£25 each.
