SOUTHLAND WINTER SHOW.
Per Press Association. Invercargill, Juno XI. Tho Southland Winter Show opened this afternoon, and is generally admitted to be the most successful ever held hi the district. The season has been exceptionally good for roots, and evidence of the fact is obvious in the displays, which are a fine feature. Tho competition in moat classes is keen. Cheese and butter, as usual, are the leading sections, and this department fairly represented the magnitude of the industry in Southland and the high standard of quality reached by the factories. An immediate incentive to exhibitors in tins class is the handsome sixty guinea trophy to become the' property of the factory that wins it three times consecutively or five times altogether. Edendale now wins it for the second consecutive tune with a total of 12 points in all cheese classes ; Mataura second, 7 points; Waikouaiti third, 6 points, Edendale secured first and second prizes in all sections, though other factories ran close here find there; Altogether the show is admirable and a credit to d progressive district.
