ALLEGED PERJURY.

At Palmerston Court yesterday morning before Messrs E. Edwards and H. E. Waldegrave, J’s.P., Samuel Teaz (Mr Graham) was charged that on May 27th he committed perjury in a police prosecution case heard at Palmerston in connection with ss hull being allowed to wander at large.

Evidence was taken at considerable length. In Constable Gleeson’s evidence counsel for defendant attempted to show that the case had been brought through personal spite, which the Constable denied.

Sergeant Stagpoole said that he was responsible for bringing the case before the Court. Witness asked defendant if ho ever told ally person that the bull had broken out of the paddock twice ? and ho said “No, he had never told anyone such a thing.” Before the question Was pnt, witness asked the S.M. to make a note of the answer and ho said ho would. Witness instructed Constable Grleeson to make inquiry into the matter and as a result the present case was brought. Counsel for defence submitted atlength that the case was not one to go before a higher Court.

Tho Bench said that they were not there to actually try the case, but to see whether it was one to go before a higher Court. They wore satisfied that there was a case tu Answer, so defendant was committed to "Supreme Court for trial.
