"THE MIDNIGHT WEDDING"
Wedneday next will witness one of the most important theatrical events in the annals of Marton. Since the. previous viist of the same company in June last with ' The Fatal Wedding," Messrs Meynell and Gunn's "Fatal Wedding" company, 'with the famous English actor, Mr Harcourt Beatty, as leading star, have been appearing with phenomenal success in the celebrated musical drama i'Tho Midnight Wedding," •which is described as being certainly ouo of the most admirable and wellbalanced romantic dramas which have been presented in tho colonies. Tho refinement and gracefulness of its story is emphasised all the more by the entire absence of sensationalism and braggadocio. "Walter Howard's 'Midnight Wedding,' " says a critic, "is full of life and movement, is one of the few recent plays which hold audiences fast from ring up of curtain to ring down. It has not a dull moment in it, and might pass for a spirited condensation of one of Anthony Hope's early novels." Referring to Mr Beatty's performance as Paul Valmar, the Adelaide Advertiser remarks —"Mr Harcout Beatty, of course, was the star artist of tho company, and his reappearance in Adelaide, which has been on tho lip of every lover of the stage for days past, was a feature of the production. Everyone likes him, from the -critic's bix to tho pit, and his reputation has been earned by the steady development of a rare histrionic gift. He is not a ranter —far from it. He is of those actors of the modern school who see the effect- of quiet work, full of feeling, and finished with the true artistic touch. His acting of the part of Paul Yalmar was really admirable. Every point was made in such a way as to show that he caught the spirit of the r-haracter." The plans are in constant requisition at Mogridge's. At the conclusion of the performance of "The Midnight Wedding" the management have decided to stage the fauinos children's scene from the famous play of the company's provious tour, "Tho Fatal Wedding," with all its luring features, enacted by tho same coteril of 30 clever children in new songs and dances.
