Press Association—Copyright, i London. June 7. Mr Morley's Indian Budget statement was well received. It announced a reduction of half a million in military expenditure there. There was a black shadow, the plague, which had claimed five and a quarter million- victims between 1896 and April 1907. Remarking that a Royal Commission might usefully inquire into over centralisation and administrative matters, he announced the establishment of an Advisory Council cf notables, the enlargement of Legislative Councils, and the appointment of one or two Indian members of the Council of India in London.
