Clearing SaleMessrs A. H Atkinson and Co. report having held a successful clearing sale at)Mr J. W. Holder’s farm, Makiuo, on Tuesday, 4th instant. In spite of the bad weather there was a good attendance of buyers, which resulted in keen competition for young cows, which made up to £7 2s, with an average of £4 7s 9d. Sundries also made good prices. Yvc quote :—Cows in calf £1 11s to £7 3s, store cows 48s, heifers in calf £5, 20 mouths heifers 345, weaner heifers 20s, weaner steers 255, 18 months steers 335, Jersey Bull 265. Horses: Aged harness mare £lO 10s, threequarter draught filly £ll 12s fid, 18 months colt by Captain £7 os. Pigs ; Slips 6s Gil, small porkers 1.2 s 6d, sows £3 to £2 17s (id. Tip spring dray £5 15s. Seed and Grain. Messrs Todd and Douglass, Dunedin, report under date Juno 4th - Oats : The past week lias been one of considerable excitement, and prices have advanced fully 3d per bushel. Merchants’ stocks are very low and country deliveries have stopped, with the exception of odd linos. The position is very strong, and wo think must remain so for soma time. Wo quote as follows — A. Gartous and Sparrow bills 3s 2d, B grade Gartous and Sparrowhills 3s Id to 3s lj.<d, C grade 3s Oj.ul, Dans 3s 2d, Long Tartars 3s to 3s 1-1; all f.o.b.s.i. Milling Wheat; Last week was the most excited one for years past, and there was a general scramble to get supplies. The reaction came about the end of the week, however, and the market closed with an easier feeling. To-day it is difficult to say what the market price is, but 4s fid f.0.h., sacks extra, is somewhere near the mark. Fowl Wheat: Very scarce and firm. We have sold several parcels during the week to South Island shippers at 4s 3)kd, and we can still quote that price for shipment. Barley: Malting continues in strong "demand, but is hard to buy. Prices range from 4s Cd to ss, milling quality 8s -id to 3s fid, feed quality 3s Id to 3s 4d. The latter is in fairly strong demand. Peas: Bine peas are very scarce, and the nominal quotation remains at fis Cd to 7s, Partridge -Is 9d to 5s f.o.b.s.i. Bran; Scarce and in strong ’demand. The market advanced during the week 10s per ton. Wo quote 90s not, f.o.b. Pollard : This is also freely asked for. Wo quote 110 s net, f.o b. Stock Report. Messrs Abraham and Williams report :—At Palmerston on Thursday the entries of both sheep and cattle were smaller than usual, and the wot weather affected the attendance. No good linos were offered. We quote: 3 tooth to f.m. ewes in lamb 18s 4cl, f.m. ewes in lamb 13s lOd, store ewes 11s fid. Shropshire wether lambs 11s, forward bullocks £6, fat cows £3 15s to £3 19s, fat heifers £3 fis, forward cows £3 to £2 las, store cows 35s to 355, good dairy cows in milk £0 to £7 15s, springing heifers £4, small wcaners ss.
