"THE MIDNIGHT WEDDING."

Most theatre-goers recollect the phenomenal business that Mesrss Moyuoll and Gunn’s famous “Fatal Wedding” Company played to in Marton last year. This flpu’s same company will return, reinforced by several well-known artists, including the famous actor Mr Harcourt Beatty, who will appear in the romantic military play “The Xvliduight Wedding, ’ ’ in which the company has ’been appearing with enormous success throughout the colonies. In this play Sir Beatty will make bis first appearance'in Martou as Paul Valmar, sword - master, of the Red Hussars. Mr Beatty, whoso name has already become a household word throughout the State, by reason of ins magnificent performances as leading man with Miss Nellie Stewart, was engaged specially for the part of Paul Valmar in the “Midnight Wedding,” whilst in America with Mr George Musgrove’s company. “As Paul Valmar,” says a critic, “Mr Harcourt Beatty lias, a part which suited him exactly. He has the innate power of embodying a romance, of suggesting tenderness, strength and good comradeship, and as Paul Valmar he has every opportunity to use his varied gifts. In his scenes with his old comrades he lias humour with dignity; in the strifes with Von Scarshrauck fearmodesty ; in his meeting with the Crown Prince, self reliance, independence, inflexible resolve ; and in his passages with Astrea, a world of tenderness with out the sacrifice of manliness. ” The play itself is said to ha rich in x’omautic interest. The sparkle of sabres, glitter through the play. Startling situations are worked out with a deftness and delicacy of touch that does not preclude, hut rather aids, excitement. There is a consistency of military intrigue, a respect for foreign military tradition, and a strength “ and fluency “of diction that easily stamps the play as a drama of extraordinary attractiveness. A large hooking lias already been recorded at Mogridgo’s. “The Midnight Wedding will he presented for this one night only, Wednesday, June 13th. In addition to the performance of the “Midnight Wedding” the famous children’s scene from the “Fatal Wedding” will he presented with the popular kids from the alley in new songs and dances.
