King and Pretender. Press Association—Copyright. Lisbon, June G. The Portuguese Parliament was dismissed a month ago. The King refuses to dismiss the Cabinet, and governs by decree. The King remains in the palace. The Queen is subjected to insults when she appears publicly. Widespread protests are voiced against the King’s action, also many municipalities and newspapers urge the people to refuse to pay taxes. A drputation is visiting Prince Miguel of Braganza, the pretender, at Vienna, who has already declrred that he is willing to consider an offer of the throne if the revolutionary movement is successful.
