The cordage of the balloon and car is not damaged, and the safety valve is closed. London. June 3. The balloon was very near the ground in several places in Dorsetshire and the officers could have slipped down the rope They carried no grapnels. The balloonists in passing shouted to the inhabitants of Winterborno Abbas to clutch the rope, which was dangling level with the roofs'. Almost immediately the balloon soared seawards. One occupant was seen in the rigging apparently endeavouring to do something with the mechanism.
The King and Queen of Italy were participating in the Kational Pete when lightning struck and set fire to a military balloon, precipitating the occupant, Captain Uliverlli. to the ground. The King spent half an hour at his bedside at the hospital where later Uliverlli succumbed.
