English Team’s Visit. Per Press Association. Wellington, May 30; Writing to the N.Z. liugby Union tl.O Union’s representative in England says, with reference to the visit of the English team to N.Z., that tho matter is well on the way and is being discussed at committee meetings of the Union. An announcement will bo made at the annual meeting at tho end of June. “1 think you can take it that the team will visit you during the coming year.” A letter has boon received by the N.Z. Rugby Union from tho South African Union stating that it was not thought advisable to send a team to New Zealand, as the next few years should bo devoted to improving local football.

Wo note that Mr A. H. Baskivillo, of Wellington, who refused Co appear before the Wellington Rugby Union to give information as to the professional team, is carrying tho war into the enemy’s country by a letter to the Post from which the following is an extract ;—“I notice with regret, that tho ‘Soccer’ football authorities of Wellington are extending an invitation to prominent English clubs—Evorton and Aston Villa I think were mentioned—to scud out. a team to play in this colony’. It is* generally known that those are both professional clubs. Tho projected tour of tho toauis referred to is monstrous and pernicious, as local players may In tempted to become professionals. If they do visit this colony, it is to be hoped that tho bodies governing football here—botlv Association and Rugby—will look to the amateur morals'of their players, aud got all to first sign a declaration that they will not bo won over to the professional ranks. It is certain if cither of those clubs send out a team, aud any ‘stars’ are discovered in New Zealand, they will bo enticed away ‘Home’ by tempting offers. I trust some abler pen than mine will aid in the endeavour to suppress this infamous proposal. ’ ’ , Turakiua Football Club lias scut a letter to Rangitikei Union expressing its willingness to. affiliate to the sub-nuion. Tho matter will come before tho next meeting of Wanganui Union on Saturday night. Horowiiouna Rugby Union want Rangitikei representatives to go to Levin this season and a return visit is promised.
