A DISAPPOINTED LOVER.

Bites off the Girl’s Nosa. Per Press Association. Dunedin, May 27. Thomas Maokay, aged 35, on Saturday night bic off a portion of the nose of Eliza Mary Hall, aged 81. Mackay.was at one time engaged to Miss Hall, who resides with her father and sisters in Hanover street. Some months ago the couple wont to Melbourne, which is Mackay’s birth place, to bo married, but the lady changed her mind and returned to Dunedin. On Saturday Maokay was accompanying her in the afternoon walking along Castle street. Miss Hall’s sister, Francos, was a short distance iu advance by Jiersolf. On Frances looking round she noticed the other pair stopping, and Miss Hall began to scream and cried out that her nose was bitten. The suffering girl was taken to the hospital, where the doctors reported that she would be permanently disfigured. In the evening Mackay went to the Halls’ house, when lie appeared to be Very penitent, and went tlie length of requesting Hall to kill him. He is further reported to have taken up a weapon with the object of killing himself. He was placed i under arrest. i

Mackey was charged with nosebiting" at the Police Court to-day and remanded till June 4th.
