Discontented With Results.
Mr Deakin, interviewed prior to his departure, stated that tiie official resolutions unanimously passed at the Conference were insufficient to call for congratulations. On several of tiie most important subjects the delegates had not only failed to induce tho acceptance of their proposals hut had failed even to receive a definite approval towards them, though something was done iu nearly every case that could have been accomplished by correspondence. Still the general indirect aud unexpressed results justified a very different tone. They constituted a total effect which ho would not attempt at present to estimate. It was impossible at present to say what effect the Conference would produce upon Australia. Every such interchange of views tends to closer relations between the Motherland and the colonies. Whatever friction may have occurred during the visit was merely individual aud transitory and delegates separated cherishing the hope that the groat ideas which inspired their gatherings would yet ho crystallised aud that future conferences would he placed on a more permanent basis aud hetto -- equipped for wide responsibilities.
