The Crotton Stables. By “Turf.” Since the present occupier—Mr T« Lloyd—has taken over tho above stables they have assumed a spick and span appearance. Many a good horse has made his debut from this stable, and with such a painstaking and capable men', >r as tho present occupier there is every likelihood of some of his charges earning their way to fame in the near future. At present ho has horses in work for Messrs D. G. Eiddiford, H. Gaiaford, H. Pryce and P. Wottou, all prominent members of the RaugL tike! Hunt.

A fine upstanding four-year-old, Wonderland Whisper, showing plenty of substance and power, unfortunately over-reached himself schooling yesterday and will be eased for a time. Mr Wottou has chosen Whymper as the gelding’s name. Being a full-brother to Murmur and half-brother to Chatterer, who ran third in tho Hawke’s Bay Cup, ho should be easily placed to advantage in the coming season. Mr Pryce, who also bred Mahoe, has just taken in hand a live-year-old full-brother to Mahoo. A chestnut in colour, with fear 'white feet, ho stands out in better proportion than his brother, and with more muscular development and stronger quarters. Bred on jumping lines he will undoubtedly bo heard of over the fences. ■ Mr D. G. Eiddiford lias two horses in tho stable. Concord, Praternite—Bellbird, rising six years, a powerfully built ’chaser, who will bo given an opportunity of showing his ability in the Pinal Steeplechase at Wanganui. Lifebuoy, Captain Webb —Retain, also occupies a box, but unfortunately is at present spelling, owing to a slight injury. He is a splendid cut of a horse, with whom it would ho hard to find a fault. Mr Herbert Gaisford’s hunter Columbine, The Page—Jessica, has again been taken in hand, and the mare looks big and lusty. Columbine succeeded in winning the Hunt Cup at the Martou meeting in 1905, and if all goes well will ho a starter in some of the big hunting events this year. The same owner has also the hunter Guardman, by Vanguard, being looked after. Mr A. Jefferson’s King Bolt, Ben Bolt—Alpine, rising four years, shows to better advantage thaii either his sire or dam, and is a good fencer. He is engaged in the Hack Hurdles at Wanganui, hut is hardly forward enough to attract the judge’s attention.

J. Lyford is connected with the stables, and will do the riding when the weights suit.

The Wanganui Meeting. Weights for the throe principal events Wanganui Steeplechase, Century Hurdles aud Conolly Handicap—have been published and various are the opinions expressed as to the horses likely to earn distinction during the coming jumping season. Kaitere, 13 0, has been well looked after in the Steeplechase, whilst tho Grand National winner— Phaetonitis—has been awarded 11.8. He was one of the best ’chasers last season, and I think will be found winning further rich stakes for his owner this season. Irish, 10.13, is a horse that can be depended upon to run honest races aud I don’t think ho will be troubled as regards his weight. Nadador, 10.9, ran a good race in the last Wanganui Steeplechase, and is capable of filling ouo of the places this year. Nadador finished well in Hawke’s Bay last week, a sign that she is forward enough. Evenlodo, 10.6, is the cut of a steeplechaser and one that I should pick to ba hard to beat. Nostator, 10.3, lias earned prominence through winning a double at Auckland aud is spoken of as a good fencer. Haydn and Slow Tom liavo both performed creditably aud if capable of producing that form may bo heard of again. Waitarere failed to run up to expectations last season, but may improve with ago. Nothing stands out prominently in the remainder of the field as having a winning chance, with the exception of Sammy, aud to select the winner in half a dozen I will name Irish, Phaetonitis, Evenlode, Nadador, Nestator and Sammy. With 38 nominated for the Century Hurdles there is plenty to work on, and the winner may be found in the following: Capulet, Black Reynard, Nestator, Sen Sim, Evenlode and Mahoe.
