FIRE.

Per Press Association. Wanganui, May 10. A ftro occurred gat tho suburb of Sedgobrook shortly- after midnight. Three houses, tho property of rl. Drew, O. Perry, and A. Mooney, were burned to tho ground. The Are started in Drew’s house, and, no water supply being available in that suburb, tho flro spread to the houses on either isdo. Tho furniture was removed from tho two houses. Insurances: Drew, £250 in tho Yorkshire ; Ferry and Mooney, £235 each in tho North British Mercantile. Furniture : Perry, £IOO in tho Manchester. Tho other insurances are not known. The fire blazed for over an hour, lighting up the surrounding hills like a searchlight. Nelson, May 10.

At 1 o’clock this morning a tobacconist’s, barber’s and general shop, occupied by John Moulder; and owned by J. Hyde, of the Junction Hotel, Takaka, was destroyed by fire. Nothing was saved. Inaurauccs were: Stock £IOO m tlio Sun, and builldiug £IOO in the same office. The damage is estimated at £SOO. It was raining heavily at the time and the pump would not work. An acetylene plant was installed and lighted the shop for the first tune last night, but the generator and its shod wore intact. It is stated that an inquiry will bo held.
