At the urge nt request of a number of ratepayers of your Riding, including your late member Mr Beckett, Vvdio was most desirous that I shoiild stand for 'the. seat 'resigned by him, and on the assurance there was not likely to bo any opposition to my return, I consented to be nominated. However, as there is now to be a contest for the seat I wish you to understand that it is not my intention to make a personal canvass for your votes, believing that my long services to the county will bo sufficient guarantee that yonr interests will be looked after to the host of my ability. I know that there is a very general feeling that the southern end of the County is very heavily rated in proportion to its requirements.
