THE STRANDED INVERAN.
Per Press Association. Wellington, May 7. As a result of tho inquiry into tho stranding of the steamer luverau, the Court held that tho master of the ship was guilty of an error of judgment in not paying out more cable; that tho third officer was negligent in not looking after the safety of the ship, especially as he was well acquainted with Wellington harbour, and that he ought to have played out more chain on both anchors; that the chief officer having come on deck, and having taking charge of paying out of the chain, ought to have given the ship more cable, and ought not to have left the deck before taking steps to ascertain whether or not the ship had moved her position. Tho Court ordered that the certificate of the third officer be suspended for one mouth. Counsel for Captain Marshall pointed .out that there was no warning in tho New Zealand pilot about "Wellington harbour. The President replied that the Court had ■not lost sight of that fact. Had there been a warning _ the Court might have dealt otherwise.
