RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was held "on Saturdav. Present: Crs, McGregor, chairman: Simpson, Lethbridge, Georgetti, Fraser, Canton and Duncan. Leave of absence was granted to Or. Morrison. Correspondence was dealt with as follows From Public Works Department, stating that arrangements will shortly be completed for handing over Taihape-Mataroa section of Main Trunk railway. From Department of Roads, advising that application for further grant of £IOOO for tho Kawhatau bridge will he considered when the estimates are being prepared for current year. From Hawke’s Bay County Council, submitting proposals for new road through the Maugaohane block, 11 miles in Hawke s Bay County, and three miles in Raugitikei County. Resolved, Crs. Canton Lethbridge that Hawke s Bay County Council bo asked to appom a deputation to meet this Council at next meeting to discuss the proposal. From R. Summers, asking tor information in connection with forming Mangawcka into a town district. —Matter attended to. From W. J. Simpson, asking that sonic protective fencing be done at burnt clay cutting on Maungabce road. Resolved, Chairman—Cr. Fraser, that Council undertake tc have-work done.
From Taiimpe School Committee, thanking Council for grant of £BS towards Tniiiapo Technical School. From L. McKclvie, granting metal from his laud in exchange for that taken from Council’s pit. From Torero School Committee, asking that a footpath on road to school and teacher’s residence be metalled, —Matter attended to at special meeting of Council. , From John Comber, asking that a roadman’s cottage be built at Ponkioro.—Matter held over, pending Mr Mair’s report as to best means of allocating the £3OO placed on the estimates for roadmen’s cottages. From Chief Health Officer, notifying alteration of arrangements in regard to Sanitary Inspector. Resolved, Chairman —Cr. Simpson, that this Council declines to make any additional contribution towards the Health Inspector’s salary. From District Laud Registrar, notice of York Farm estate block fronting on Raugitikei river being put under the Laud Transfer Act. Resolved, Chairman —Or. Fraser, that the Crown Lauds Department be written to inquiring whether the Council lias any interest in the river frontage along blocks 8 and 9a. An application from a resident at Utiku to have a small foot bridge erected in tho main street in Utiku was left to Cr. Georgetti and Mr Mair to get the work done. Mr Carmody waited on Council and complained that the engineer had refused to take over his contracts on the Tutupapa road, although they had heeu completed some months.-—Mr Mair, engineer, said the contracts had not been completed according to specifications.—Mr Carmody was informed that lie must carry out the contracts to tho satisfaction of engineer. Mr Livingstone attended and asked for a bonus of £3O contract for tho Taihape-Otuarei road in consequence of delay and part of the work being deducted.—Council granted £2O in settlement of all claims. The Engineer’s and Inspector’s reports were read and dealt with. The action of the Engineer in accepting several contracts was confirmed. Mr Mair was instructed to go over and report upon the proposed deviation of the Ngarnru road. Following tenders were accepted : Forming 34 chains Pakaka road, Moawliaugo, G. Wheeler; Cliff widening and fencing Moawhango Valley road, G. Wheeler ; trimming and gravelling 80 chains Mangaone Valley road, John Peters. The Treasurer reported that receipts since Ist April amounted to £1326 13s. Accounts amounting to £3385 11s lOd were passed for payment, leaving a debit balance on the general account of £3043 10s fid. _ It was resolved, Crs. Lethbridge —Simpson, that the work of constructing the new hndge over tue Kahaurapouga stream at Turakiua be gone on with. That, Crs. Lethbridge—Simpson, Mr George Podjnreky be appointed ranger for the Comity. That, Chairman—Cr. Fraser, Coxuicil decline to renevr the General Accident Policy at the rate offered, 2s, 5 per cent but that it be an instruction that all employees of the Council’s contractors shall be insured, also that Council’s workmen engaged on the motor waggon and road machines and'other dangerous works he covered.
COUNTY WORKS. A schedule of sums for which Rangitikei Council intend asking Govenmaent for subsidies for current roars is as follows -Toroa-Piikeo-kalm, £4OOO, for gravelling, £ for £ up to £SOO suggested; KawhatauPotaka road, £2500, for traffic bridge, £ for £ up to £1250 suggested ; Mangaone Valley road for gravelling £500; Mataroa road, .south end, widening and gravelling, £a00; Mataroa road, north end, widening £150; Makohiue Valley road, widening £150; Hunterville-Pohouui road, gravelling £SOOO, £ for £ up to £IOOO suggested.
