DUSH FELLING. Wanted to Lct-1200 Aore3 of Bush, in lots to suit contactors. APPIy Y/ILSON K iwhatau, [ In reply to Messrs Dalrymple anu Wilson's notice which appeared i the Advocate, stating thus:-" Natives have nothing to do with these lakes," Kaikokopu Lakes, better known as Hunia's Lakes and others. Therefore I am requested to notify that my friends are the first to contradict Hunia's rights to these lakes, they having just possessed the lands surrounding the Reserve (i.e., the Kaikokopu Lakes) last year. Therefore I take the liberty of saying that Hunia owns the Reserve, and he also occupied the land with, his people many years before the sale of the Rangitikei and Manawatu Blocks to the Crown in the year 1866, and since then it has been always recognised as Hunia's lakes. The said lakes were reserved by Hunia for the benefit of his people, and he also erected a two-roomed wooden building over thirty years ago near the lakes for the convenience of those Natives wishing to catch iish and shoot game. As regards to the house it is still in good order. _ According to the above mentioned, that is the above conditions, the Hunias will continue their rights of shooting and fishing on these lakes. I have formerly advertised for several years the right of shooting on the said'lakes on behalf of the Hunia*, and "there has been no contradiction from anyone. Therefore in realising the facts concerning the sole rights of Hunia to those lakes, I came to the conclusion that it would be very unfair on the Hunias to have their rights abolished, having been under their possession fo\' many years, and Bince the late Kawana Hunia conducted the interest of the Government as regards to the Rangitikei and Manawatu Blocks sales; and the same was confirmed according to his method, under his influence over the tribes. In referring to the above-mentioned, I am sure, it will affect the former sales if their rights to these lakes are deprived. . . , I was informed by Native friends that a drain has been constructed through the Reserve, therefore I ton prepared to fill in the drain to prevent further destruction to the lakes, and as wo do nob agree to have a drain through the properties.
