The Comet.
Slß.—Your correspondent, Mr. L. A. MacDonald, is hard of conviction and appears to be like the man who looked for his horse in the -wrong paddock. But that fact did not surely affect the existence pi the horse. I have asked Mr Allison to kindly furnish position, etc., from the work book at the Observatory and in haste as other business pressr: must ask Mr MacDonald to wait the confirmation which will shortly reach him from elsewhere.-—Yours, etc., THE HON. DIRECTOR. Wangauui Observatory. April 27th, 1907. The position of Mr Grigg's comet is entered in the work book of the Wanganni Observatory cu three evenings as follows :—April 10 days, 9hrs. R.A., ohrs. 22min. 45secs., Dec. S., 29deg. 40; April 11 days, Bhrs. R.A., Slurs. 42min. 40secs., Dec. S., 21deg. 37; April 12 days, Bhrs. R.A., Ohrs. Omin. lOsec, Dec. S., 12deg. 58. The first and last evenings the comet was observed, and its position verified by Mr Ward and the writer, on the other observed and found its. lt will be seen from these positions that it was moving very rapidly north. As to its appearance and magnitude ; it appeared about the eighth magnitude and like Omega Cent&nri in a very small telescope. Mr Griggs' telescope is a refractor by Wray, equatorially mounted. The comet was found in Wangauui from his position.—THOMAS ALLISON.
