FARMERS' UNION.
Marion Branch. The annual meeting was held on Saturday, Mr Edward Newman in the chair.
The report congratulated members on the very satisfactory progress made by the Union during the past twelve mouths. The membership had increased to. 145. At the last general meeting the committee appointed Mr O. G. Houghton to enlist new members. . It was necessary that every farmer should become a member of thepJnion so that it would make their power in the laud felt. They had a proof of the power of the Union, when the Land Bill came before the House. It was nothing else but the strong protest from the farmers all over New Zealand that placed the Bill on the shelf. The statement of accounts showed a credit balance of £4B 14s 3d. The report and balance sheet wore adopted. Tae election of officers resulted Chairman, Mr W. J. Birch; vicechairmen, Messrs E. Newman aud O. G. Houghton. - The old committee were re-elected with the addition of Messrs H. H. Richardson, J. W. Marshall, B. P. Letl-’n-idge, R. Neumann and W. Oldfield. Messrs Geo. Marshall and O. G. Houghton were’ appointed delegates to the Provincial Council. Mr E. Newman was elected freproseutative to’the Technical School Committee. -Mr F. R. H. Brice received a vote of thanks for past services as secretary and was granted a bonus of £lO. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Edward Newman that subscriptions to the Branch bo based on the rateable value instead of area and that the minimum bo 5s and maximum £3. PSSS
