(From Our Own Correspondent.) * Another well respected settler is just leaving us, and at a large gathering of settlers, held at Mr \Y. Campbell's and Loveridge's residence on Saturday evening, asmoke concert was held to bid farewell to Mr Sander, who is leaving this district for Taranaki. Mr Campbell, in a pleasing speech, then presented Mr Sander with a handsome gold double watch chain as a mark of the esteem of the people of Pohonui and Pukeroa settlers. They could not afford to lose such good men as Mr Sander. It was a pity he was leaving, and while they all regretted losing him. all hoped his new home | would be a pleasant one and that he might live long to wear the cham lie now presented to him on behalf of the settlers and himself. Cheers and toasts followed. Mr Sander suitably replied, and thanked all present for their kindness. Songs a,ud recitations brought the evening to a close. Mr Sander was also entert lined at a little Scandinavian smoker at Mr Peterson s residence last Saturday, at i which' \ lxmg aongs were the feature of the evening and the old Swedish Ensign was presented to Mr Sander to take with him to Taranaki.
