SENSATIONAL CONFESSION.

■Asailomamed Newsoine was sentenced to twelve months for obtaining goods on false pretences on the strength of an imaginary legacy. AVhilo awaiting trial he created a sensation by handing to the police a document 'implicating himself with the shooting of the captain and mate of the ship Leicester Castle on a voyage from San Francisco to Queenstown in 1902, The ' confession stated that lie ahot the captain and second mate then with two shipmates, who assisted in the plot, escaped on a raft to Pitcairn Island. Tkoy, afterwards made their way to England where they found that the captain had survived but the mate had died. Nowsomo to-day declared that his confession was boguu, and was made when suffering from delirium, and that he learned while a seaman aboard the .Leicester' Castle on the voyage after that whereon the shooting described actually occurred. ,
