A SKILFUL THEFT.

Press Association. Auckland, April 16. A particularly skilful theft was committed iu Mr Goldwater’s pawnshop in Victoria Street last evening. A young man asked to bo shown diamond rkigs and one valued at £65 was shown him and after he had carefully handled and scrutinised_ it the young fellow went outside, informing tho proprietor ho was going to bring a friend in. The friend never camb ' and Mr Goldwater’s suspicious were aroused.He looked at the case containing the' ring last shown to the visitor and found that the valuable ring was missing and that another ring valued at about £1 had been substituted. The police were informed and a detective arrested Robert Black, alias Lewis, on a charge of stealing tho ring. The ring was not iu his possession, but was subsequently recovered by the police.
