The first party this season of young emigrants from Dr Barnardo's Homes left Paddington station for Canada. The party consisted of 290 boys and 60 girls, which brings the number of emigrants up to more than 18,000, and 1200 more will be sent abroad this year. Tbs German steamer "Valdivia, from the West Indie?, which has arrived off Sandy Hook, reports that on the 13th inst. an explosion occurred on board by which seven persons were killed and three injured and considerable damage was done. The explosion threw down the funnel and ripped open the deck. Six of the crew and one woman were killed. A message from Estevan, Saskatchewan, states that a Mrs Eadchfl and her three children have been ficzen solid in a farmhouse, in which there was no fuel or provisions. The 307th anniversary of the martyrdom of Giordano Bruno was marked at Rome on February 17ih by a procession of 12,000 Socialists and Anarchists, who paraded the city shouting, “ Down with the Vatican, and death to the Pope.” After depositing wreaths on the statue of Bruno, the precession went to the Capitol and forced an entrance to the Loggia, beating back the large force of police who tried to prevent their entrance. Several deputies then delivered speeches, and the meeting dispersed.
