Open Handicap Hurdles, once round the course ; There were eight starters in this event and R. Bartlett’s Eoseal (N. Lowrie) and Mr L. Harvey’s Spur (owner) dead heat, 1, Mr E. Howie’s Oamalakie 3. Ten starters.
The winner of the Ladies’ Bracelet —Vendetta —.closely resembles his sire Kempenfeldt in colour, being out of a Matai mare. He finished' the last quarter of a mile, in a taking manner, considering that he is grass fed.
Mr I. Bartlett’s Roscal, who dead heated in the five furlongs flutter, is by Raugipnhi out of Forest Rose and therefore full sister to that consist-., ent performer—Rosegrove. She is a nice looking mare and should he able to wiu a race.
In commenting on the riding at the sports, thejjndges considered that the ladies handled their mounts at the jumps far better than some of the hoy riders and also some of the competitors in the jumping contests, their hands being lighter, which gave their mounts a freer passage instead of a jerky tug as the obstacle was reached, as was invariably the case of the sterner sex. Mr L. McKclyip’s • grey hunter Hailstone- is making quite -a reputation as'a show' jumper, this being liis fourth successive whir-Bulls*, Palmerston, Awahnri and Paraokaretu falling to his lot. He was nicely handled by his owner yesterday and has the appearance of being a very safe convpyance|ovor cgcmiiry.
