The monthly meeting was hole -yesterday. Present: Grs. J. £ Wilson (chairman), fe.B. McKeaz e G. Kendall, Thos. Masters, H. Hum mond, J. Daltou. Or. Barber win granted leave of absence. , g CORRESPONDENCE. . From Government Railway engineer, in reference to Messrs Bell and Levin taking flax from railway reserve at Oroua Bridge.-Cr. Kendal to meet Government Inspector and tho firm and settle matter. From Palmeston Hospital Board stating that a levy of 4s W m £ 100 C had been made, Council's liability being £U7 5s 2d. The total amount required for maintenance of mtections diseases hospital was £3OO and 12s 9d -was the Council's liability. The chairman said that in Wanganni was Bs, and in Wellington hospital district 12s per £IOOO. From Kairanga Council, stating that it was proposed to deck Oroua Bridge and asking if Mauawatu Council approve of suggestion ivud will pay half cost. —Agreed to. From Glen Oroua Dairy Co., stating that drain from creamery at Oroua Downs had been cleaned out. —Or. Kendall stated that the Company had determined to obtain a, flow of water from an artesian weu to flush fie drain and Mr Thompson would b? satisfied. „„„„,iain From Mrs E. W. Coley, «WPku»ing of bad state of Motaa road.Consideration deferred. , Robert Hammond, asking Council to prevent traction engines S driven along the roads at night without provision for warning travellers of their approach.—Mr Hammond to be asked name of traction engine driver referred to. From E. Pigott, stating Shannon punt was in bad condition.—Overleer to attend to matter. From B. Gray, Himatangi, stating that he was afraid that if the now tramway regulations were put in operation tho line would not pay. To be written to more fully explaining regulations. The Council considered tho proposed regulations, drafted at a meeting of motorists at Palmerston, for use of cars on the roads. These were approved of. "'Tho Council received applications fre'm proprietors of Feildmg Star and Foxton papers for a share of the advertising.-WThO Council concluded there was no reason to alter the ar; rangements by which tho Rangltikei Advocate was declared the official advertising medium of the Council, but the same course, wculd be adopted as formerly, namely, to give those and other papers advertisements which affected the particular localises within which they had some circulation. ' she 'Tramway manager reported that receipts during past month had
been £2B 12s 4d and expenditure £i) lis 6d, It was anticipated the granary would not be much used for ensuing year as the high prices for grain were inducing holders to sell for immediate consumption. Cr. McKenzie advocated running the tram daily. He believed that now the population along the line had doubled since the tri-weekly service had been instituted, a daily service would induce an increaso of traffic. He instanced the increase in the number of coaches plying in the country since the tri-weekly tram service was instituted. It was pointed out by other councillors that £350 more ad been expended on the tramway la st year than had been received. Or. McKenzie contended that part of that expenditure tyras in the nature hi pQrinffUSsnfc 'work. The' chairman replied that thougH'this was true the Council only had the general account to draw upon to meet expenditure on tramway, The overseer reported that the making of approaches to new bridge on Awahuri road had been abandoned owing to wet weather, and as there was no cement available for tbe second bridge it would tie advisable not to go on with the work at present. The late flood in the Jlauawatu river had damaged the FoxtonShannon road and he considered it would be advisable to fascine the side of the road with bundles of scrub. Mr Boyle should be requested to clear the gorse in front of his pro. perty along tram line. The estimated cost of ereeting a bridge on Feilding-Awahuri road was £l6l os. The above portion of the report was adopted. The Treasurer reported various

Commenting on the balance sheet, ■which was presented, the chairman said tiie Council had commenced the year with the intention of reducing overdraft by £3OO and this had been accomplished within about'£3s. “ It was' resolved that Alfred 'Jpngr ley Drew be appointed clerk, trea : surer and fate Collector to Manawatu County Council as from Ist April, f 907, also that Mr Drew bo appointed manager of Tramway from tame dace. That Council give notice that all Outstanding rates not paid at once Will he sued for without further notice aud that County Clerk be authorised ;o take the necessary Steps. The overseer, on the motion of On Dalton, was directed to make an estimate of cost of making Lewis's line to connect with Longburn aud Jones’ rnn.fl.
