WAR OFFICE ECONOMICS.

Press Association.—Copyright. London, April 10,

The notices at Woolwich have been suspended tor a month to enable the War Office to reconsider the whole question, London, April 10. A sensational feature of tho debate on Mr Haldane’s scheme was Sir Charles Dilke declaring that the proposed striking force of 107,000 was far too largo and not fixed by any consideration of strategical needs but merely by the accidental strength of battalions abroad. Tho House was not informed where such forces might be needed. Tho financial provision for territorials was inadequate and there was very little democratic about territorials. The sympathy of the public could only be attracted if Australia’s plan was adopted of paying artisans for time given to the public service.
