CLERGYMAN'S EXPERIMENT.
Educational circles in "Wolverhampton district are interested in a remarkable incident which ha.s cccurred in a voluntary school. A boy bad been punished by the headmaster, end complaint being made to t,he managers, the chairman, who is a well-known clergyman, went to tbo school and asked that he should receive the punishment which had been inflicted on tbe boy, so that he could test and judge o£ its severity. The headmaster explained that the boy had received six strokes, three on each hand. " Well," said the reverend gentleman, " I'll take them," and ho held out his hand in the conventional boy's fashion. The headmaster screwed up courage, and in the pre- ! sence of the assistant teachers and the class administered six vigorous strokes. The clergyman lost his smile at the second stroke, and winced at each of the succeeding ones, to the great joy of the assembled boys. After the punishment he picked up his hat and hurriedly left the room.
