ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, April 8. At the inquest on tne body of Donald Mclntyre, drowned in Morgan's Swimming Bath, Jjlin Mclntyre, father of deceased, said his son had never been subject to fits, and was a good swimmer. James Mulholland deposed that he, together with William Joyce and deceased, went to Morgan's baths, and all three went into the baths together. There were a good number of others, about thirty, in the baths. Witness and deceased were in the baths together for about three-quarters of an hour. When witness got out of the water ho missed the deceased, and not finding him concluded that ho had gone homo with some other'. Br Fulton deposed that he proceeded to Morgan's baths and found several men applying artificial respiration. Witness was of opinion that the lad had had an epileptic fit in the water. He was led to think this because it appeared the lad had gone into the hot bath too soon after a heavy meal. Witness was told by five or six that the lad had had an epileptic fit. Death was due to drowning during an epileptic fit. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony, adding a rider to the effect that whenever the baths are open to the public a watchman should be in attendance.
The body of a man named Meikle, who was lost on Galloway run about six months ago, has been found at the foot of a cliff near Manoifearn creek. I. Wellington, April 8. Joseph John Gregan. a well-known eontractor, of Lower Hutt, died suddenly today from heart disease. Deceased was only 2S years of age, and was -married 18 months ago; • " Gisbokne, April 0. A waggon "accident happened on Sunday night on Birch Hill, Wairau yalley. Driving down tho steep cutting, the waggon overturned, and one man named Gash was pinned beneath the vehicle in the bed of the creek for an hour. Another, whose name ' is unknown, had his leg broken. Both were conveyed to the hospital, and tlisir condition is serious. Dannevikee, April 9. A man named Egan, aged about 80, single, a resident of Pahiatua, was killed by a fall of earth in a gravel pit near Danhevirke this morning. .UtJNEEiN, April 9. John Scott, Borough drayman, has been drowned at Kawarua. He was emptying a dray load of ashes at the tip head when he slipped into the river: .... - TiiiAKir, April 0. At inquest on the body of William Pogson to-day a "Yarclicfc of found drowned was returned. Deceased left a -note addressed to his superior officer in'the Glovernnient Stock Department giving directions as to forwarding a pocket book to his wife and concluding with the words, '' Completely run down; brain gone; good-bye.""
