A SCHOOLBOY'S ROMANCE.
At ail entertainment at his fathers house in Hamburg one night, a boy, aged fifteen, met an actres, with whom he fell desperately in love. He kept his romance a secret, and in due course returned to school. One day the headmaster met the boy's fathor—a rich merchant of Hamburg —in the street. "How is your son? Better, I hope," said the schoolmaster. '' He is quite well,'' answered the father. '' He has not been ill.'' "He has not had a severe illness?" "No." '' But your son has been absent for the last five weeks, and your wife herself wrote the letters excusing his absence.'' There were exclamations on botli sides and hasty enquiries into the mystery. It appears that the actress and her boy lover had been faced by a great obstacle in their romance. * She had to go the theatre at night; lie had to go to school in the daytime. Ergo, they never would have seen each other at all. But love laughs at schoolmasters as well as locksmiths. So the actress wrote letters of excuse to the headmaster, signing them in the name of the mother. For five weeks this plan was successful. The father in his wrath lias instituted proceedings against the actress for forgery.
