RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was held on Saturday. Present —Crs. Beckett (chairman), Georgetti, Canton, Fraser, Simpson, McGregor, and Duncan. , Leave of absence was granted to Crs. Morrison and Lethbridge. Correspondence was dealt with as follows; From Treasury, advising payment of loans —Makirikiri road £IOO, Whareroa road £I3OO, Maugaone Valley road £SOO, Makohine V. S. road £55, Wairatio road £llO and Union ro.nl £IOO, also payment of grants— Mangaone-Mataroa £35, TaihapeOtuarei £l4O, Maugamahoo-Mataroa £33, Taihape-Waionru £475 and Kaka £33 11s lid. From Receiver Laud Revenue, advising payment of thirds hypothecated £783 9s 4d and ordinary £3lO 7-; 10d. From Department of Roads, asking .consent of Council to a deviation in tli3 Moawhaugo Valley road.—The action of chairman in signing the plan he confirmed.
From Inspector of Tolegrapl s, seating the name Ougo submitted f>r telephone bureau at Mr G. Y. Lethbridge’s- was not good Maori.— The clerk replied that Ougp is the mine of m survey district in Kaugitikei. , . . From Technical School Committee, asking Council to appoint a representative to the Committee. —Resolved (Crs. Fraser—McGregor) that Mr R. K. Simpson bo asked to accept the appointment. From R. L. Arrowsmith, asking O ouncil to give a grant towards a technical school at Taihapo.—Resolved (Crs. Canton—Georgetti) that £ 15 be voted. ' From S. A. R. Mair, asking if contracts may be let in anticipation of Otairi riding rate to be levied next year.—Work lias been authorised and is now in hand. From Donald Stewart, asking that four chains of the Otairi road be metalled. —Council resolved to put same on the road. From M. Tansey, asking that the footpath on south side of Bank street, Maugawoka, be formed. —Left in hands of Or. Georgetti and Engineer to deal with. From James Campion, asking that the Engineer inspect and give estimate of cost of deviation of road between D. Beard’s and Chirac station.—Resolved (Crs. McGregor— Caufou) that £ for £ be granted up to £3OO towards cost of deviation of road.
■ From Or. Morrison, suggesting separate rate to provide £IOO for Tai-liape-Otnarei roads.—The Engineer to define ’special rating area and submit same at next meeting.
Mr Thoms reported that tho motor waggon had been doing better work lately. It took out 18 yards a distance of nearly two miles at a cost of £1 Jos, not quite 2s per yard. To have taken the same quantity out with drays would have cost at least 4s per yard which shows a saving of 37s in favour of the motor waggon. The Engineer’s, Mr Mair, report was read and dealt with.—Resolved that the action of Mr Mair in accepting tenders for contracts 240, 242 and 343 from Messrs R. Kendrick, A. Liv : ingstouo and Thos. Brady respectively, be confirmed. Mr Campion, of Okirao, waited on Council and asked that from tho Kauaugaroa bridge to Mr D. Beard’s gate ho metalled.—Resolved (Crs. McGregor—Goorgctti) that £IOO he spout on metalling Maugitipona road, £3O to conic out of general account and £BO from Waugaehu Riding acr fjoput. Or. Canton brought up the matter of railway service between Taihape aijd Mataroa. The railway had not yet been handed over to Government and there was no fixed time-table am
ranged by the Public Works Departs meut, which was very uusatisfam tory. Ho moved that Government be requested to baud oyer the line to the Railway Department as the system of dual rates and irregular timetable is a grievous hardship to settlors. Tho motion was carried. It was decided to offer Mr A. Frederick £ls for half an acre of laud for a gravel reserve. Resolved (Crs. Resolved, Crs.
