OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting was held on Friday. Present—Crs G. Wheeler (chairman), W. G. Pearce, H. S. Cornfoot, J. H. Vincent, and Thos. Boland. Mr W. Eeid was present, but it is a question for the Council's legal adviser sis to whether he lias lost his seat, having been absent from three successive meetings, his name having been omitted from the minutes of the fourth and the minutes confirmed. COBEESPONDENCE.

From S. J. Mullins, stating that there were a number of cattle grazing on Pharazyn’s road. —To be advised to impound them.

From Leila Pemberton, offering .£lO an aero for balance of land taken from Mr Warno for road purposes, except the old road which she considered should be given to her as compensation. —Chairman with Cr Vincent to report. From Gorge ferryman, stating that Gorge road was closed to all hut foot passengers. Tho boat leaked and the punt was aground.—Cr Vincent to have boat repaired and report. From Ernest Carr, drawing attention to need of roadman at Makara hill.— Attended to.

From Mr W. A. Sandilands, solicitor stating resolution re Pohangina bridge loan was strictly in conformity with Act. Council had full power to compel abatement of nuisance said to exist at Bunny - thorpe. From H. Cornfoot, stating Onepuhi road was impassible owing to a scour out of a culvert. '

From Win. Diffcy, Halcombo, asking that road loading to bis property be repaired.—Being attended to. From Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, stating that a levy of 4s Sd in £IOOO had boon made. Council’s contribution being £3GB 9s Gd. From L. Thompson, stating be was billed for 1906 rates on August 15th and 10 per cent added four months after instead of six months. —To he enquired into.

The treasurer reported : —General rates collected £3039 Is Id, outstanding £B7 Us sd. Bank balance, general account, cr. £998 2s 7d, interest account, dr, £IOB 4s 7d. Riding accounts, Eaumanga, cr. £97 13s 2d; Mangaone, dr. £lO9 8s 8d; Eangitawa, £llO 2s 4d; Makino, £212 13s lid ; Taonui, £SOB Cs 4d ; Hiwinui, £3ol<>3 sd.

Owing to the very, steep grades on Penelope road, owners of land where deviations will bo necessary are to be requested to state their price for land taken and compensation or other conditions. A plan of this road, laid off about 30 years ago, was placed upon tbe table. It showed a series of grades which could only ho climbed by a goat or other surefooted animal.

Notice was given of intention to strike a general rate of jd in £. The following tenders were accepted J. Lawrence’s for Pohangina road at 3s 3d per yard and for Ulysses’ road at 3s per yard, F. Allerby’s for Taonui road at 2s 8d and Valley-Midlands at 2s Cd, Shapleski Bros, for Ashhurst newly formed roads at 2s and newly formed footpaths at 2s 4d, G. H. Langshear’s for Makino road at 3s Bd, and for Cemetery road at 4s 9d,

Resolved, that penny-royal be declared a noxious weed in Oroua County.
