There was a capital attendance at the Exhibition to-day and while earlier holi- - toy trippers from other parts of the jolony are returning home in Large bers, their places are seemingly being taken by other visitors. _ ! An interesting new exhibit was placed lit the natural histofy court this after'fioon consisting of a jar of baby Japanese goldfish; They were spawned at the private aquaria of Mr Waite, curator of Canterbury Museum, on Good Friday, 1 and the eggs hatched on Wednesday last. The interesting little creatures which are somewhat difficult of detection by the naked eye, owing to their semitransparency, are about a quarter of an
licit long. At the request of the Hon. Carroll, Native Minister, the Maori girls from Turakina College will temp-in at the Exhibition for another week. The two concerts given by Madame Blanche Arral, in conjunction with the Exhibition orchestra, have proved both from the artistic and financial standpoints ainbiig the most successful entertainments that have been given in the Concert Hall School children are still homing to the Exhibition from all parts of the colony in undiminished numbers. Among arrivals of the last few days are parties from Bannockburn, Kaikoura, Hokitika, and Lawrence schools, while the children of Caversham Industrial School are expected H9xi/ WG&k. The royalties from side-shows and selling rights for the week ending Wednesday last, amounted to over ,£isoo. ine Exhibition statistics are made up for weeks ending Wednesday owing to the fact that the fair was opened on a Thursdiy. Mr Jaquos’ demonstration of preserving pears and quinces to-night was attended by one of the largest gatherings ho has ever had. Frequent demonstrations will bo given next week. The General Manager has received advice that about two hundred patrons of special rail and steamer excursion from Hawke’s Kay and Wairarapa left Wellington by the Mararoa to-night. Many farmers and others having expressed a wish to obtain small quantity of some of the cereals exhibited in the n-ricidtural Dopartmeht’s court, the f .quests will bo complied with as far as possible. Applications should be sent to the officer in charge not later than April 10. Bequests from teachers and committees for seed for school plots will have preference. The children’s carnival and search for two buried nuggets will be held in Wonderland on Saturday.
